Groceries are set to go green in the North East, with the economy and skilled jobs getting a boost from a £7mn funding package from the government.
It has awarded backing to Exolum as the fuel distributer looks to build a publicly accessible green hydrogen refuelling station near Middlesbrough. This is set to serve at least 25 heavy goods vehicles making deliveries throughout the region, paving the way for thousands of goods to be sustainably delivered.
Alongside this, the government has also awarded £300,000 to Tees Valley Combined Authority. This will be used to run a competition for Tees Valley colleges and training institutions, helping them purchase hydrogen training equipment that can then be used to upskill the local workforce.
It continues a drive to innovate hydrogen-powered transport in the Tees Valley, with projects led by ULEMCo and Element 2 to develop hydrogen-powered airport ground-based support vehicles and new hydrogen refuelling stations previously awarded backing.
