A £190mn funding package has been unveiled, helping industry to make the shift to net zero, cutting emissions and their bills.
As well as announcing plans for a new phase of the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund, where £185mn will be on offer, the government announced the winners of the Local Decarbonisation Plan competition.
Twelve winners have been announced, with each benefitting from a share of up to £6mn. The aim is to help businesses and their partners cut emissions, learn from one another and prepare for the adoption of measures such as hydrogen and carbon capture.
Successful projects include Shoreham Port Industrial Cluster, where 175 businesses sit across a 110-acre site, which is set to explore ways to reduce emissions and improve local air quality through working with local councils, and the Decarbonising the Midlands Aerospace Cluster which will collaborate with key players in the region’s aerospace supply chain to identify manufacturing processes that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and then work on solutions.
Elsewhere, Solent Cluster Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plan will focus on manufacturing and will leverage resources to bring wider benefits to further Solent industries. Emitters will have access to CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, as well as low carbon hydrogen production being developed in the Solent. The plan will then inform how each project can benefit from both this and other low carbon infrastructure.
