Kraft Heinz and Carlton Power have joined forces and are now set to study the development of a green hydrogen plant at Kraft Heinz’s Kitt Green manufacturing plant in Wigan.
The 20MW Kitt Green hydrogen plant will meet more than 50% of the plant’s annual natural gas demand and help to reduce its carbon emissions by as much as 16,000 tonnes a year. Wind and solar will, primarily, power the electrolyser to make the hydrogen, with 2026 the targeted operation date for the facility.
The project is still subject to financial support through the government’s second hydrogen allocation round, with Kraft Heinz and Carlton Power working to secure this and also aiming to secure planning permission for the scheme over the next 12 to 18 months.
