Holiday park operator, Haven, has unveiled an £18mn package of investment that will see solar panels and energy saving measures installed across 39 of its 41 parks.
Over £13mn will be invested in solar panels, with installations expected to be completed by June 2024. Once in place, these developments are expected to be able to generate up to 9MW of power, which would be equivalent to 10% of the total energy that the parks use. It will also install new air-source heat pumps in three park swimming pool buildings.
The package also includes £5mn for energy saving initiatives, including the installation of Building Management Systems to remotely control equipment set points and efficiency levels, as well as data monitoring systems that have interactive alarms, helping to highlight any overconsumption of electric, gas and water. There are also refrigeration upgrades with optimsation tools and energy saving technologies.
The investment follows increasing demand for eco-friendly holidays, with Haven outlining how 80% of its guests had agreed green energy is important to them, while 70% feel there should be more solar panels installed on parks.
Haven’s Managing Director, Simon Palethorpe said the company is on a mission to cut its carbon emissions by 15% come the end of 2024. Palethorpe continued: “We want everyone to be involved at our holiday parks which is why we are engaging our supply chain and working with our team and holidaymakers alike in our ‘keen to be green’ efforts. These fit-for-future investments put sustainability at the heart of family staycations and are a great addition to our promise to give incredible value to guests and owners.”
