RWE has launched a feasibility study into a new carbon capture project in Great Yarmouth.
The study focuses on its Great Yarmouth Power Station where the introduction of carbon capture technology could see 395MW of generation become decarbonised, secure, flexible power, through capturing 600,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Connected to the Bacton gas terminal, the facility is potentially ideally placed to connect to new carbon storage facilities being developed in the region.
Investment in the project could also pave the way for new jobs in the local area, as well as providing for the local economy with millions of pounds investment and opportunities for the supply chain.
With Great Yarmouth added in, RWE would be able to provide 5.1GW of secure, flexible, low carbon electricity through its carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments. Further facilities are being developed at its existing stations of Staythorpe and Pembroke in Wales and a new-build gas fired power station with carbon capture at Stallingborough.
