The government has announced over £21mn in support for seven projects set to make low carbon hydrogen through the second round of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund.
With a collective capacity of 800MW, successful projects include the Suffolk Hydrogen Hub, which is set to see a network of hydrogen production refuelling stations in Suffolk. It will kick off with a 10MW facility in Ipswich, as a consortium of firms – the Bamford Bus Company, Ryze Hydrogen, Hynamics and Hygen Energy – look to provide an end-to-end hydrogen solution to customers, spanning vehicles, production, dispensing and distribution. Hydrogen will be provided to low carbon service vehicles at the Sizewell C nuclear site.
Other successful in the round include Tees Valley Hydrogen, which is being run by Exolum and will see a new hydrogen refuelling station built to supply the local transport sector, as well as the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub, which is being run by BP and Aberdeen City Council and will see cleaner fuel provided to the local fleet of electric buses.
It has also given backing to Pembroke 200MW Green Hydrogen Electrolyser Phase II, which will supply local offtakers with low carbon hydrogen, cutting emissions by 160,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent each year; Grenian Hydrogen’s Speke project, which will see a new electrolytic hydrogen project built at Speke in Liverpool City Region; the Sullom Voe Terminal Hydrogen Project, which is set to be an advanced facility for hydrogen generation and derivative production with an initial 50MW capacity and the potential to expand to 300MW; and Tees Green Methanol, which marks the third phase of EDF Renewables and Hynamic’s Tees green hydrogen programme and will see a 200MW electrolyser developed and deployed, feeding a proposed e-methanol plant.
