Lhyfe has launched its first UK project after revealing plans for a 20MW green hydrogen plant in the North East of England.
While subject to building permission and a financial investment decision, “Lhyfe Wallsend” would be capable of producing up to 8 tonnes of green hydrogen each day. Based at the Neptune Bank Power Station in North Tyneside, the facility will use green electricity from the grid, allowing it to comply with the Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard. Lhyfe is exploring options to source the power from local renewable assets too, such as solar power and wind energy.
This marks the first step in Lhyfe’s mission to become a major supplier to energy-intensive industries and transportation across the UK, boosting energy security and creating new economic opportunities. It is also eyeing opportunities to develop offshore hydrogen production by making the most of the UK’s offshore wind resource.
A planning application will be submitted to North Tyneside Council this spring. Lhyfe is now kicking off a programme of community engagement.
