ERM has launched offshore trials in South Wales to test key parts of its Dolphyn Hydrogen process, which blends electrolysis, desalination and hydrogen production on a floating wind platform.
The trials are being carried out at Pembroke Port, with ERM regarding them as an “important step forward” in helping the UK produce low carbon hydrogen safely, reliable and at scale. Its Dolphyn Hydrogen process sees hydrogen, once made, transported to shore through a pipeline where it can then be used for power generation, transport and heating purposes, as well as in industry.
Crucial advantages include there being no need for an electrical connection paving the way for low carbon energy generation without grid constraints or energy consumption from other renewable sources.
