Essar Energy Transition (EET) has announced plans for EET Hydrogen Power – Europe’s first hydrogen-ready combined heat and power plant (CHP).
EET Hydrogen Power will be based at EET’s Stanlow Refinery and is expected to be developed over two phases, reaching a capacity of 125MW with 6,000 tonnes of steam per day. It will replace existing boiler units that current generate around 50MW of power, leading to a carbon emissions reduction of 740,000 tonnes per annum.
It will also provide low carbon power to other industrial users in the region, supporting both their decarbonisation plans and EET’s goal to decarbonise operations at its Stanlow refinery by 95% by 2030. This would make it the world’s lowest carbon refinery.
