bp has entered into a final round of negotiations with the government for its proposed H2Teesside project.
A statement of principles has been agreed with the government, as have front-end engineering design contracts for the project with Technip Energies for EPX execution methodology, a robust schedule and project cost and with Costain for the design of the pipeline infrastructure. Both will complete in 2025. Signing the statement of principles with the government means that now H2Teesside can enter into a final phase of negotiations for a low carbon hydrogen agreement.
The proposed 1.2GW blue hydrogen production facility with integrated carbon capture will form part of the East Coast Cluster, meaning it will integrate with other decarbonisation projects in the region and strive to capture and send for storage over 2 million tonnes of CO2 each year. It will look to work with a diverse range of customers, including those already established in the region, plus new businesses lured in by the prospect of low carbon hydrogen being produced at scale.
bp is looking to support economic development and regeneration in Teesside, helping to create jobs in both construction and operation phases. It will also support local education, skills development and catalyse a highly skilled UK-based hydrogen and CCS supply chain.
