Cadent has launched a consultation on the HyNet hydrogen pipeline ahead of submitting a final application.
Around 100km of new pipeline is set to be developed through the project and cover Ellesmere Port, Chester, Northwich, Warrington and Halton, as per H2View. It will distribute blue hydrogen produced by EET Hydrogen to offtakers across the North West. Specific areas Cadent is seeking feedback on include around the Draft Order Limits within which the pipeline is set to be routed and temporary construction areas.
It also wants feedback on potential Hydrogen Above Ground Installation (HAGI) and Block Valve Installation (BVI) sites as, even though it will be underground, nine HAGIs and two BVIs are going to be needed. Once the consultation concludes, with eight in-person events across the project area and two online events to form part of it, Cadent will develop the final design and submit an application to the Planning Inspectorate and Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary for a Development Consent Order. This is expected to happen in spring 2025, with a final decision then following in 2026.
