Helical Energy has completed the design, manufacture and installation of a 1.5MW pilot plant at Cranfield University.
The HyPER project is striving to test an innovative hydrogen production technology – GTI Energy’s sorption enhanced steam reforming process where carbon dioxide is captured during the hydrogen production process, with chemical reactions shifted to lead to the production of more hydrogen. This has the potential to substantially reduce emissions.
Writing on his LinkedIn, Helical Energy CEO, Mark Wickham, revealed the plant installed will enable the production of hydrogen with carbon capture from natural gas. It blends Helical’s COTSG and CALCINER technologies, generating a mixture of high temperature steam and natural gas for GTI’s technology and to separate high quality CO2 from the calcining loop.
