In Europe, the European Commission has awarded a package of more than €250 million to 21 hydrogen projects to help decarbonise EU industry.
According to the Commission, the funding will help hydrogen infrastructure benefit from 21 development studies, working to alleviate investment risks associated with the hydrogen market, while also complementing hydrogen policy framework that bas been introduced.
The projects span Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Spain.
The Commission highlighted the BarMar-H2med project between Spain and France as a particularly notable one, which will see an offshore hydrogen pipeline interconnecting hydrogen infrastructure in Spain and France with a new 144MW compression station in Barcelona and 455km pipeline between Barcelona and Marseille.
It also pointed to backbone projects in Italy, Portugal and Spain, along with hydrogen corridors and routes in the Baltic region as among those to receive backing in the package.
