Shoreham Port has announced a partnership with ScottishPower to explore the development of a green hydrogen production facility at the port, helping to decarbonise its operations.
The feasibility study into a potential renewable green energy production facility is set to be carried out under a 12-month Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Shoreham pointed to ScottishPower’s success in the first Hydrogen Allocation Round where it had two of the first three projects to sign Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreements, as well as the fact it is driving forward a feasibility study for a 100MW production plant at the Port of Felixstowe.
With certain industries and applications unsuitable for electrification on the UK’s net zero journey, green hydrogen is set to play a pivotal role in decarbonising natural gas in heavy industry, as well as diesel fuel in large-scale transport solutions.
