Work is now underway on a pioneering new hydrogen refuelling station at Teesside International Airport after planning permission was granted.
Element 2 is building the station which is set to refuel all hydrogen road vehicles, meaning trucks, vans and cars, as well as airport vehicles. Both 700 and 350 bar refuelling will be on offer. Construction work is expected to be complete this spring, ahead of a period of installation and commissioning, before operations then begin, with the station forming part of the Tees Valley Hydrogen Transport Hub.
Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, said the region had been “first out of the blocks” when backing hydrogen and that the groundwork laid back then was now paying off with “action and results”.
Houchen continued: “We want to continue to stretch our lead at the forefront of the cleaner, healthier and safer industries of tomorrow and having this station at our airport is a huge marker laid down to the rest of the country. The upshot of investing and working on these pioneering industries is we’re at the front of the queue in bringing hundreds of good, well-paid jobs to our people and our airport in the years to come.”
