TÜV SÜD has signed a Collaboration Agreement with the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ) which will see it become the operator of the Green Hydrogen Test and Demonstration Facilities site in the South of Aberdeen.
As well as being a flagship of the Hydrogen Campus within the ETZ, the project is et o be one of TÜV SÜD’s foremost green hydrogen test and development sites globally. Through the facility, it will be able to test key equipment at an industrial scale, ensuring both its long-term safety and its long-term reliability.
A final investment decision is set to be made in early 2026, with the site then becoming operational in early 2027. It will provide open access facilities for companies that want to test pioneering hydrogen technologies. Its overriding aim will be to drive further investment and facilitate hydrogen production at scale for the local economy.
Martin McCormack, ETZ Director for CCUS and Hydrogen, said: “Green hydrogen has a key role to play in decarbonising heavy transport, industrial processes, and potentially even heating homes. This facility, with the right partner in place, will help deliver that.”
