ZeroAvia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Loganair, committing the pair to work towards the potential adoption of hydrogen-electric engines, helping support zero-emission flights.
With ZeroAvia pushing forward with certification of a 600kW hydrogen-electric powertrain for a 10-20 seat aircraft with the UK Civil Aviation Authority, it is initially targeting the Cessna Caravan as its launch airframe. However, it is also pledging to gain additional supplemental type certificates for other aircraft in this category – one of which is the Twin Otter, an airframe used by Loganair as it serves communities in the Scottish Highlands and Islands.
At the same time, ZeroAvia is also developing a modular ZA2000 engine to serve 40-80 seat aircraft, such as the ATR which, again, is used by Loganair, which operates more than 20 of these airframes.
