The Crown Estate has said it is signalling a “major vote of confidence in the UK’s green economy” after announcing six proposed offshore wind projects for England and Wales.
On 8 February, following its Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4, it unveiled six projects representing just under 8GW of potential new offshore wind capacity. The projects would support continued growth and investment in the UK’s offshore wind sector, which could employ 60,000 people by 2030; help the UK to save 12.5mn tonnes of CO2 emissions a year, equivalent to 19% of the nation’s annual household emissions; and deliver a 21% increase in the pipeline of offshore wind projects.
Having been selected through a competitive seabed tender process, they will now progress to a Habitats Regulations Assessment.
