Net Zero East to target innovative solutions to net zero transition

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new initiative with the goal of collaborating with and supporting local stakeholders across the East of England to find innovative solutions to both facilitate and accelerate the drive to net zero by 2050.

Net Zero East (NZE), set up by Nigel Cornwall of New Anglia Energy and Johnathan Reynolds of Opergy, will provide a regional focus of the complex issues around delivering accelerated change in the energy, transport and land use sectors. Its mission is to look at the wide-ranging challenges facing local authorities, businesses and individuals and the changes they will have to make when it comes to supporting the transformation.

The new organisation will be formally launched at a webinar on 14 April 2021, featuring guest presentations from Laura Sandys CBE of Challenging Ideas, Guy Newey of the Energy Systems Catapult and Ed Birkett of Policy Exchange, who will look at national policy drivers and how these are translating into different regional policy initiatives focussed on the consumer and shaped around local resources.

NZE will set out potential programmes and priorities that can support the high levels of technical and commercial innovation needed to enable East Anglia to become the UK’s Clean Growth region and support the necessary changes, while the team will also introduce the deep regional mapping work, methodologies and supporting platform they have developed to help inform and guide stakeholder actions.
