tpgroup secures contract to manage hydrogen gas

Hydrogen

Under a £1mn contract, tpgroup is set to provide management control equipment for enhanced safety managed of hydrogen gas.

Making the announcement in early August, tpgroup explained that under the contract, it will qualify the design concepts and build and test a prototype system to manage hydrogen during emergency shutdown procedures more safely and reliable than existing methods.

It explained that environments where explosive gas is present are classified into zones according to risk and are closely controlled. The innovative design combines tpgroup’s technologies with technologies already proven in other applications. These can then be modified to perform in enclosed or containerised situations. The overriding objective is to respond quickly to a shutdown event, process the hydrogen, before then allowing it to be vented safely into the controlled zone.

The project is set to begin immediately at the tpgroup facility in Portsmouth. It is expected to be complete in mid-2021.
